I hand lettered some wooden signs for a wonderful local school last year.
The words help children identify with so much more than simply striving towards academic milestones. How precious is this?
This particular sign below is displayed in their Forest School and is one of my favourites, mainly because it’s in the woods, not in or around a classroom building.
Why am I posting about this? Well, today will be a celebratory day for some Year 6 children who receive their 11+ results. Huge congratulations to those that get the result they want.
It’s a much bigger, challenging day for those children who do not achieve the outcome that they had hoped for and, for many, this will be their first experience of it.
It may take time to rebuild their confidence, but trust their journey and there’s a good chance that they will be stronger for the experience.
Today does not define them or their future. Success is not final. They’ve only been on our beautiful planet for a tincy wincy 10 years and they all have a HUGE future of exploring ahead of them.
Let’s hopefully guide them with the power of optimism, helping them find inner strength and tenacity that they didn’t know they had. To learn that it’s OK to have a cry, to feel sad.
Then it’s time to pick yourself up!
Head high youngsters!
Believe in yourself and spread your wings once again.
Go shine in a different way.
