I’ve got a special birthday coming up.
One of those milestone birthdays where you get to wear a badge. Perhaps balloons. With numbers and everything!
Well, I celebrated early with a wonderful group of friends last week. And they surprised me with this gorgeous picnic hamper. It’s completely me! #grannyatheart. And I couldn’t wait to give it a test run.
So when I saw that it was National Cream Tea Day last Friday, I was all over it like ketchup on hot chips. Into the hamper went some homemade scones, a pot of strawberry jam and some clotted cream, a flask of tea #grannytastic and some cartons of juice for the girls and off we went to find a spot by the river on a stunning Saturday afternoon.
Perfect! Albeit there was still the long-standing cream-first-no-jam-first debate which often gets somewhat heated.
But you know what? You don’t need a ‘National Day’ to enjoy a cream tea out with some special people.
Grab your picnic rug and pack up your hamper with cream tea delights and head off to a quiet spot to enjoy while this season is still treating us so well. Enjoy these beautiful summer days (171 sleeps until Christmas folks #justsaying).
It really doesn’t take too much planning and you could be ‘scone’, out the door, just like that. See what I did there?
I’ll get my coat…(a light one. It’s summer after all)
But before I do, below is a simple recipe for homemade scones. Because they really do taste so much better homemade and they really don’t take very long at all to make. You could have them cooling on the rack in 30 minutes, so much faster than it would take for you to pop to the shops to buy them.
