‘Storms of applause, cheques and roses”
I quite liked my music teacher at school. We would often sing as a class and she would always ask at the end of a pleasing rendition:
“and what should you receive after a great performance?”
and she’d taught us to respond in unison:
“storms of applause, cheques and roses!”
March has been full of productions for the girls. The youngest had a full weekend of ballet shows earlier this month and both were in dance shows last weekend too.
After many months of rehearsing routines, photo shoots, costume fittings and dress rehearsals, they were exhausted! But what a delight to watch them dance with confidence and grace. So there certainly were, “storms of applause” from family watching. No cheques unfortunately, but there were roses on their pillows for their return home.
Flowers certainly have the power to bring a smile no matter what age you are. And it need not be something overly extravagant.
Wrap a small bunch of daffodils, a single rose or some flowers from your garden in some tissue paper, cellophane (if you have it), add some ribbon and you have a simple gift to say:
Well done (for a great Parent’s Evening/on your spelling test/for a great effort/trying your best)
Just because (saw these and thought of you/it’s your favourite colour)
In fact, this pretty much guarantees a smile no matter what age you are. Or gender!
A lot of thoughtfulness radiates off the simplest of gestures.
